How to Be the “Perfect” Client
Every attorney wants to do their best for their clients, maximizing the client's “bang for their buck” while providing quality legal work. Below are tips on how you as the client can assist in that mission.
Time to get organized!
Top 10 Tips in becoming the client every attorney wants to work with.
Tip 1 Be TRUTHFUL! Tell your attorney the entire story good, bad, or otherwise. It can only help you.
Tip 2 Have your documents ready and provide them to your attorney in a timely fashion. There is nothing better than an over-prepared client.
Tip 3 Update your contact information when it changes. Do not make your attorney have to consult Nancy Drew to find you.
Tip 4 Handle your financial commitments in a prompt and business-like manner. This means paying your attorney on time.
Tip 5 Respond within 24-36 hours of your attorney contacting you. Often attorneys are on tight deadlines and need to get a hold of you promptly. Failure to reply can hurt your case in some circumstances.
Tip 6 Do NOT contact the Courts directly when you are represented by an attorney. Ask your questions to your attorney! That is what they are there for.
Tip 7 Do NOT compare your case to your family members, friends, brothers, cousin's case. No two cases are the same. Their advice is not always accurate and you should be cautious in following it. Our attorneys always make an effort to answer all of your questions and give you all the information you need pertaining to your case.
Tip 8 · Should you learn anything that may affect your case, it is your responsibility to let your attorney know. As much as we wish we were mind readers, we aren’t. You, as the client, may know the facts of the case much faster.
Tip 9 DO remain calm. True emergencies will be handled as such. Things that aren’t a legal emergency will be handled timely in order to keep your costs low.
Tip 10 Remember your disclosures to your attorney are confidential.
